FIAV at United Nations forum in DOHA

On the occasion of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) 4th Forum held in Doha, Qatar on 11-13 December 2011, FIAV's President Mr Vasan Srinivasan promoted several major milestones of Multiculturalism in Victoria.

"To me multiculturalism is just how life is. I am an Indian born, raising a family in Australia, living in the house to the right is a Chinese family and to the left is a Greek family. When I go out to work in the morning, I see all Australian families going to work as well. When you look down the street there are many different people from many different nationalities. All of us have been living together for many years now, said Mr Srinivasan in his remarks during one of the breakout sessions."

More than 2,000 participants, including political and corporate leaders, civil society activists and faith communities gathered in Qatar to take part in the UNAOC Forum to discuss how to improve relations across cultures, combat prejudice and build lasting peace.

As the Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the UNAOC Australian civil society chapter, which is being established under the auspices of the Global Dialogue Foundation, Mr Srinivasan representing the Indian community is working closely with leaders from; Australian Indigenous, Pacific Islands, Chinese and African communities, to offer the opportunity for community-based and grassroots organisations to connect with the UNAOC, its programs and its partners.

The UNAOC Forum offered opportunities to create international partnerships, to form new UNAOC civil society chapters and to expand on momentum going forward with understanding for each other’s culture, background, language and faith.

FIAV is proud to be part of the UNAOC civil society chapter in Australia and extends an opportunity to all Indian organisations, but also to organisations of all cultures living in Australia, to join.

The Australia-India business relationship is experiencing a huge growth in trade of commodities and services with current trade estimates in the order of $20 billion per year.

It is anticipated that two-way trade between Australia and India will reach $40 billion over a period of four years.
As you may be aware, Australia's largest ever trade mission, involving more than 220 Victorian companies and organisations, are travelling to India next week with the The Premier of Victoria, the Hon. Ted Baillieu.
The trade mission covers strategic sectors including: education, ICT, aviation and aerospace, automotive, sustainable urban design, clean tech, food and beverage, tourism and life sciences. The mission will strengthen the Australian investment relationship with India significantly and generate substantial new opportunities for Victorian businesses, as well as additional exports and jobs for Victoria.

For over 25 years, Australian India Business Council (AIBC) members have benefited from business connections, trade information, delegation visits, and trade advocacy between the two countries.
We are encouraging new membership from the Indian business community in 2012 and the benefits are as follows:
 (a) An opportunity to network with other members and build their profile in the business community
 (b) To keep abreast with industry and trade information and changes that may occur from time to time
 (c) An opportunity for members to meet industry, business and government leaders from both countries
 (d) Assisting in the development of trade policy that is beneficial to both countries
 (e) A gateway for members to market their products and services through the links with Chambers and Associations.
 (f) An opportunity for members to establish trade connections with incoming leads emanating from India
 (g) An opportunity for members to forge ahead with best practices in business, through professional training and leadership courses
 (h) Occasions for the business community to experience the socio-cultural diversity of India.

I would like to make contact with you.

I am seeking your support in updating your members about current trends with India, the exciting phase we are in, and find out if there is any interest in joining, and participating in AIBC activities in 2012.
Should some of your members be interested, they could write to me at aibcvic@aibc.org.au or register directly as a new member through our website www.aibc.org.au
Kind Regards
